Does the President's proposed plan to repeal energy tax benefits further his broad energy goals and decrease the United States dependence on imported oil?
We need oil and natural gas for the next several decades until a viable alternative is in place and making them more expensive or scarce will not serve America's energy needs. Presenter William G. Barr III has just returned from several days in Washington and will share his insights on the issue, and presenter Meredith Traudt will discuss the significant negative consequences if these proposals are imposed upon independent producers, your investors and on the national economy.
Facts to consider:
The US imports 63% of our oil and sends $265 billion to foreign governments for that oil.
The US independent oil and natural gas industry appears to be under attack from several fronts in Washington.
These producers develop 90% of American wells, produce 80% of U.S. natural gas and 65% of U.S. oil, yet there is a proposal to repeal energy tax benefits which would drastically reduce the number of wells that remain in production or drilled in the future.
A number of bills are pending in Congress that further threaten the oil and natural gas industry, including the “Frac Act.” and looming climate change legislation.
Regulatory changes in collateral and margin requirements in the derivatives market could force producers to either take money away from exploration and production activities or forego hedging.
